22 dead, 20 others injured as trailer carrying passengers, cattle crashes on Niger State road
At least 22 people have been confirmed dead and 20 others injured in a lone accident involving a trailer along the Lapai–Lambata road in Niger State.
According to Sahara Reporters, the deadly incident occurred in the early hours of Monday at about 3:00 a.m.
The vehicle was said to be heading to Lagos from Kano, was reportedly conveying both passengers and cattle.
Most of the passengers, according to eyewitness accounts, were from Zamfara State and were travelling for commercial purposes.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Niger State, Aishat Saadu, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, saying the trailer was conveying both passengers and cattle from Kano to Lagos.
She said the crash happened around 3am and involved only one vehicle, a trailer.
“The crash occurred around 0300hrs along the Lapai – Lambata route,” she said.
“It was a lone crash involving a truck.”
“Forty-two (42) people were involved. Twenty-two (22) dead, twenty (20) injured as at the time of rescue. The injured were taken to FMC Lambata, while the dead were taken to the General Hospital, Suleja.”
