MSNBC Strikes Deal To Air Sky News Coverage For US Audiences

MSNBC has partnered with Sky News to deliver international reporting to US viewers, launching across all platforms October 1.

MSNBC announced on Wednesday that it has signed a multi-year agreement with Sky News to bring the British broadcaster’s global reporting to US audiences, part of a broader effort to strengthen its news operations.

As part of the revamp, MSNBC will rebrand to My Source News Opinion World (MS NOW) and retire its iconic peacock logo. The changes come as parent company Comcast moves forward with the planned separation of several NBCUniversal cable networks later this year.

The deal will make Sky News’ coverage, backed by 11 international bureaus and more than 500 journalists, available across all MSNBC platforms starting October 1.

“In this moment of consequential and historic news events happening around the world that are rapidly reshaping our collective future, we are honoured to bring Sky News’ premium, on-the-ground reporting and roster of top journalists to the MSNBC community,” said MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler.

Comcast, which acquired British pay-TV company Sky for £30.6 billion ($41.14 billion) in 2018, plans to spin off its cable channels—including USA Network, CNBC, and MSNBC—into a new public company called Versant, signalling a strategic shift toward growth in the streaming era.

In tandem with the rebranding, MSNBC appointed journalist Ian Sherwood as its Director of International Newsgathering. Sherwood brings over a decade of experience in leadership roles with NBC News’ international teams and has previously worked with both BBC News and Sky News.

The rebrand and expanded international coverage position MS NOW to compete more effectively in a rapidly evolving news landscape while leveraging the global expertise of Sky News.
