Six LAUTECH Nursing Students Die in Road Crash on Way to Examination

Six final year nursing students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology have reportedly died in a road accident while travelling to sit for their semester examinations.

The students were said to be on their way to campus when the vehicles conveying them were involved in a crash along the Suleja Abuja expressway on Sunday. They were expected to resume in person academic activities on Monday, February 23, 2026.

In a statement released on Monday, the leadership of the Elegant Nurses Forum of the university confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Olabisi James, secretary of the forum, extended condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased, describing the development as heartbreaking.

The forum said it shares in the grief of the bereaved families and stands with them during this painful period. It also acknowledged the efforts of emergency responders and medical personnel who attended to the victims after the crash.

The association called on road users to be mindful of safety and to exercise greater caution while travelling.

At the time of this report, the management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

The news has triggered widespread reactions on social media, where many expressed shock and sadness over the deaths of the young students whose academic journey was close to completion.
