BREAKING: Boko Haram overruns another military base in Borno, kills Commanding Officer, others

Boko Haram terrorists have overrun another military camp in Borno State, killing the commanding officer and other officers just a few days after the Ngoshe attack.

According to DailyTrust, the attack happened in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State in the early hours of Monday.

A source from the town revealed that the insurgents attacked the military base around 12:30am.

“They (terrorists) stormed the town from multiple directions and launched an attack on the military camp,” the source said.

Another security source said that the terrorists chased the troops from their base, set vehicles on fire and carted away ammunition.

“I cannot say much about the casualties but it’s very sad that we also lost the CO (commanding officer) here,” one of the security sources said.

Recall that in February, the terror group attacked a military base but was repelled by the troops, leaving many of them dead.

The brave response was commended by the community, which earned the Commanding Officer accolade and he was widely celebrated, particularly on social media.

The lawmaker representing Kukawa LGA in the Borno State House of Assembly, Karta Maina Ma’aji Lawan, also celebrated with the troops at the time.

Reacting to the latest attack, Lawnr said it was sad that the military base was overrun this time around.

Lately, there have been waves of attacks by terrorists on Nigerian military bases in the North-East, sparking fears that the deadly group possesses more firepower than the Army.

Last year, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency on security in a bid to curb the rising breakdown of law and order across the country. However, despite this move, bandits, terrorists and other criminal groups have continued to operate, often evading the eyes of security operatives.
