Tinubu to Diaspora: Nigeria Has Moved Beyond Economic Hardship, Calls for Renewed Confidence

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians living abroad that the country has emerged from a period of economic difficulty and uncertainty, urging them to remain optimistic about its future.

Speaking at the Nigeria Modernism Exhibition in London during his two-day visit to the United Kingdom, the President reiterated his administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, describing it as a deliberate effort to restore confidence and rebuild trust among citizens at home and abroad.

Tinubu stated that his government was elected with a clear mandate to revive hope, adding that signs of progress are already becoming evident. He expressed confidence that Nigeria has moved past what he described as a difficult phase marked by economic instability and a sense of national pessimism, and is now on a path towards growth and opportunity.

He acknowledged the vital role Nigerians in the diaspora continue to play, both through their contributions to host economies like the United Kingdom and through remittances that support families and development back home. According to him, their impact remains significant and should be recognised as part of the country’s broader economic strength.

The President also challenged prevailing international assessments of African economies, noting his disagreement with certain global credit ratings. He emphasised that Africa’s true potential cannot be defined solely by external indices, but rather by the determination of its people to shape their own narrative and future.

Addressing concerns about global economic instability, rising costs of living, and ongoing geopolitical tensions, Tinubu encouraged Nigerians abroad to remain steadfast and positive. He stressed the importance of maintaining confidence despite current challenges, assuring them that the reforms underway are meaningful and aimed at delivering lasting improvements.

He further pledged to provide leadership that inspires belief and collective action, urging Nigerians in the diaspora to stay connected and actively participate in building the nation they desire.

Tinubu concluded by calling for unity and shared responsibility, emphasising that the journey towards a stronger Nigeria requires the commitment of both citizens at home and those abroad.
