Bwala Defends Tinubu’s UK Visit, Says Trip Targets Investment and Global Relevance
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy Communication, has addressed growing criticism surrounding the President’s recent state visit to the United Kingdom, describing the trip as a strategic move aimed at advancing Nigeria’s economic and diplomatic interests.
President Tinubu undertook a two-day visit to the UK, where he was received by King Charles III in what has been described as a significant diplomatic engagement. However, the trip drew reactions from opposition figures, many of whom questioned its timing and relevance in light of Nigeria’s current economic and social challenges.
Responding to the criticism in a Facebook post on Friday, Bwala argued that meaningful national development requires active global engagement rather than isolation. He stressed that progress cannot be achieved by remaining inward-looking, noting that the visit was designed to create pathways for increased investment, job creation, and broader economic opportunities for Nigerians.
According to him, the engagement with the United Kingdom also reflects a growing commitment to strengthen bilateral relations based on mutual trust and cooperation. He highlighted the willingness of King Charles III to collaborate with Nigeria in key areas of shared interest, describing it as a positive signal for future partnerships.
Bwala further noted that the President’s presence on the international stage is essential in repositioning Nigeria as a country that is visible, influential, and respected globally. He maintained that such diplomatic efforts are critical to driving national growth and securing long-term benefits for the country.
The Presidency’s response underscores its position that foreign engagements remain a vital tool in shaping Nigeria’s economic future, despite ongoing domestic concerns.
