The Escape That Changed Everything: Ckay’s Secret Journey Into Music

Afrobeats musician CKay has talked about his rise to fame and the sacrifices he made to further his career.

In a livestream with Carter Efe, the “Love Nwantiti” hitmaker claimed that he had to leave home at the age of 19 because his parents disapproved of his musical ambitions.

He claims that in order to pursue his love of music, he moved to Lagos and lived with a friend before obtaining a one-room apartment of his own.

He said, “My parents didn’t want me to do music, so I ran away from home in Kaduna when I was 19.

“I came down to Lagos to chase my passion in music. When I arrived in Lagos, I wrote a long letter and sent it to my mum via Blackberry.

“Initially, I was staying with one of my friends. But after sometime, I got a one-room apartment. I was making money as a producer working with four different studios.

“At some point, I had to drop out of university”, he explained.

His perseverance and diligence eventually paid off, as his breakthrough song, “Container,” helped him become well-known in 2018.

His song “Love Nwantiti” broke numerous African records and received a billion Spotify plays the next year.

Success is not always guaranteed, but unwavering determination is the key that unlocks every door. No matter the obstacles, setbacks, or doubts that arise, a steadfast commitment to one’s goals keeps the spirit alive and fuels the journey forward. It is the resilience to persevere through challenges and the belief in oneself that ultimately paves the way to achievement. With determination as the foundation, success becomes not just a possibility, but an inevitable destination.
