Lagosreporter Latest Ranking: Hon Oluwafemi Daniel Odunayo ShinesWith Itire/Ikate LCDA
Earning Its Place: Itire-Ikate LCDA’s Rise to 24th Position
When Lagosreporters recently ranked Itire-Ikate LCDA 24th out of 57 Local Governments and LCDAs, it wasn’t just a number; it was a testament to hard work and tangible progress. The ranking reflects evaluations in areas such as health, education, infrastructure, job creation, and more. Under Hon. Oluwafemi Daniel Odunayo’s leadership, this administration has made significant strides in every category, and it’s not merely rhetoric — it’s a proven record of achievement.
Revamping Infrastructure: “Operation 7 Roads” Takes the Lead
In an impressive display of commitment, the Chairman launched and completed seven major roads within the first 100 days. This wasn’t simply about laying asphalt; it included comprehensive construction with proper drainage systems and solar-powered streetlights designed to enhance both security and nighttime commerce. “Operation 7 Roads” is more than a project — it’s a vital lifeline for communities like Ijeshatedo and Aguda, transforming how residents navigate their neighborhoods.
Strengthening Institutions for Better Service
To enhance service delivery, the administration has invested in institutional capacity by donating three official buses to various council departments. This move underscores the importance of mobility for effective legislative oversight and executive coordination, ensuring that services reach the people who need them most.
Championing Education: Equipping Minds with Skills
Education is a cornerstone of Hon. Odunayo’s vision. His administration has taken significant steps to enhance educational opportunities:
- Free GCE forms and learning materials for students.
- Commissioning new secondary school projects and rehabilitating classrooms.
- Launching vocational training programs where students learn to create school bags, sandals, and garments.
As the Chairman rightly states, “Education is the key… a power to fight against poverty.” Such investments are reflected in the community’s response.
Healthcare: Free and Accessible for All
The LCDA’s commitment to health is evident through the provision of free mega medical services to residents. Coupled with improvements in primary healthcare centers and a focus on maternal care, these initiatives have positively shifted health outcomes, demonstrating that when the government takes action in health, the effects are profoundly felt by the community.
Empowering Youth: Turning Promises into Action
Youth engagement under Hon. Odunayo has been nothing short of transformative, with hands-on initiatives such as:
- Vocational skill acquisition programs in tailoring, catering, and cosmetology.
- Microloans and comprehensive business training for aspiring entrepreneurs.
- Development of markets through active engagement with local vendors.
- Empowerment grants for widows.
The Chairman emphasizes that youth involvement in technology, sports, and education is not just a goal; it’s a priority.
Environmental Sustainability: “Operation Clean Itire-Ikate”
To combat environmental challenges, the administration launched a 45-member task force dedicated to maintaining cleanliness and preventing refuse dumping. Collaborating with LAWMA for efficient waste management and investing in drainage desilting are part of a broader commitment to sustainable practices.
Inclusive Governance: Giving Residents a Voice
Hon. Odunayo believes in the power of community voices. Through institutionalized town hall meetings, public consultations, and open forums, he ensures that residents have a seat at the table when decisions are made. This “people-centered governance” approach has been celebrated in the recent 100-day report, highlighting engaged citizens eager to contribute to local governance.
A Showcase of Achievements
In his budget and performance reviews, the Chairman proudly highlighted additional accomplishments: distribution of school bags, palliatives for the community, renovation of the council secretariat, the commissioning of the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Ultramodern Market, and plans for an area office and legislative chamber. The upcoming 2026 budget, set at N9.67 billion, is focused on infrastructural development, prioritizing roads, healthcare, schools, and support for vulnerable groups.
Looking Ahead: Why a Second Term Matters
Ranking 24th in the first term isn’t the endpoint; it’s the starting line. With established systems and a growing trust in leadership, a second term promises to bring even more: additional roads, more schools, expanded housing, enhanced ICT infrastructure, and upgraded sports facilities. Hon. Oluwafemi Daniel Odunayo has already showcased his capacity for effective governance in just 100 days. Imagine what can be achieved over 1,460 days!
Together, we can continue the journey of progress. Itire-Ikate is on the rise, and the future is bright!
