Anthony Joshua Loses Two Trainers In Ghastly Car Crash On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Matchroom Boxing Confirms Identities

Matchroom Boxing names Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele as associates killed in the Lagos crash that injured heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Promoters of British heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua have confirmed the identities of the two associates who died in a fatal road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that also left the boxer injured.
In a statement issued on Monday, Matchroom Boxing said the victims were Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, both long-standing members of Joshua’s inner team and close personal friends.

“With profound sadness, it has been confirmed that two close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, have tragically passed away,” the promoters said.
Matchroom Boxing confirmed that Joshua sustained injuries in the crash and was taken to the hospital for medical checks and treatment. The boxer, they added, is in a stable condition and will remain in Nigeria under observation.
The accident occurred near Lagos when the vehicle carrying Joshua and members of his team reportedly collided with a stationary lorry while overtaking at speed. Joshua was rescued from the wreckage, while two other occupants were said to have escaped unharmed.

Tributes have continued to pour in from across the boxing world, with fighters and promoters describing Ghami and Ayodele as respected professionals and loyal figures within Joshua’s camp.

Ghami had worked with Joshua for more than a decade as his strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele, popularly known as “Latz, served as his personal trainer and confidant.

Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, also confirmed that he spoke with Joshua to convey condolences and wish him a speedy recovery, describing the incident as a tragic loss during the festive season.

Matchroom Boxing said no further comment would be made at this time, requesting privacy for the families of the deceased and those affected by the incident.
