Benjamin Hundeyin Removed As Nigeria Police Force Spokesperson Six Months Into Role

ACP Benjamin Hundeyin is removed as Nigeria Police Force spokesperson just six months into the role amid internal restructuring.

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has removed its Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, barely six months after he assumed the position, sources confirmed.

Approval for Hundeyin’s removal was reportedly given on Thursday, March 5, 2025, though the circumstances behind the decision remain unclear. The development comes amid an ongoing internal shake-up at the force following the appointment of Tunji Disu as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Disu succeeded Kayode Egbetokun, who had led the force since 2023.

A source told THE WHISTLER, “The Force Public Relations Officer has been removed this morning. We don’t know who will take over from him, although we thought he would last longer considering his expertise. However, when a new IGP is appointed, it is not unusual for some positions to be vacated unfortunately, he was affected.”

The identity of Hundeyin’s successor remains unknown, raising questions over how the police will manage communications amid intensified operational activities in recent days.

When contacted, Hundeyin declined to comment, stating he was “unavailable right now” and directing inquiries to FCT or state police command spokespersons.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
