BUA Cement Awards N40 Million Scholarships To 200 Students In Three Northern States

BUA Cement supports students across Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara with annual scholarships aimed at strengthening education and easing financial burdens.

In a colourful ceremony held at the BUA Cement plant in Sokoto, the company’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Yusuf Haliru Binji, announced a N40 million scholarship programme for 200 students from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.

Represented by Plant Director Mr. Aminu Bashar, Binji said the award is part of BUA Cement’s ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and is intended to complement Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s education driven policies.

Each beneficiary will receive N200,000, with the total disbursement amounting to N40 million.

The slots were allocated as follows: 50 scholarships for students from Wamakko Local Government, another 50 for other local governments in Sokoto State, and the remaining 100 for indigenes of Kebbi and Zamfara states studying at various tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

“The gesture is part of our CSR and is being carried out annually,” Binji said. “Education is a top priority for us, and we are proud to support the efforts of the government in improving educational outcomes in the region.”

Representatives of the ministries of education in Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara lauded the initiative, noting that the scholarships would relieve financial pressure on parents and reinforce government programmes aimed at boosting school enrolment and performance.

Beneficiaries Ibrahim Ahmad and Jennifer John thanked BUA Cement on behalf of their peers, saying the support would “lessen our burden and boost our performance.”

The event underscores BUA Cement’s commitment to community development and its strategy of aligning corporate investment with the educational aspirations of youths in north western Nigeria.

The company indicated it plans to expand similar programmes in the future.
