China Says US Strike On Iran Undermines Its Global Credibility
China has strongly criticised the United States for its military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities, stating that the situation has damaged Washington’s credibility on the international stage and that the situation could spiral out of control.
The reaction comes after an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Sunday.
According to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, Beijing expressed deep concern over the growing instability in the Middle East following the joint US-Israeli strike, which US President Donald Trump claimed had “obliterated” key Iranian nuclear sites. The attack marks the most significant Western military action against Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Speaking at the Security Council meeting, China’s UN Ambassador Fu Cong urged all parties to exercise restraint, especially Israel, and to avoid inflaming tensions.
“Parties should restrain the impulse of force, avoid exacerbating conflicts and adding fuel to the fire,” Fu said. He added that an immediate ceasefire was essential to prevent the crisis from escalating or spilling over into neighbouring regions.
China, alongside Russia and Pakistan, pushed for the Security Council to adopt a resolution demanding an “immediate and unconditional” ceasefire across the Middle East. The proposal reflects Beijing’s position that military action will only worsen the conflict and undermine efforts toward lasting peace.
Ambassador Fu was also blunt in his criticism of the United States’ standing on the global stage. “Iran was hurt, but the United States’ credibility was also damaged — both as a country and as a participant in any international negotiations,” he noted.
This sentiment was echoed in an editorial published by the state-owned Global Times, which labelled the strike as “extremely dangerous and provocative.” The piece argued that foreign military interference has historically failed to resolve regional disputes and instead serves to “deepen hatred and trauma.”
Amid the growing tension, China’s embassy in Tehran announced late Sunday that most Chinese citizens residing in Iran had been safely evacuated. The embassy confirmed that the remaining Chinese nationals are located in areas not considered high-risk.
