Davido: Politics May Cost Me My Career

Afrobeats star Davido has expressed fresh doubts about stepping into politics, saying the move could jeopardise the music career he has spent years building.

Speaking during a live Twitch session with streamer Davrel, the Grammy-nominated artiste revealed that although he once had a strong interest in politics, his perspective has shifted after closely observing the experiences of entertainers who transitioned into governance.

He explained that the realities of political life appear more complex and demanding than they seem from the outside, prompting him to reconsider his earlier ambitions.

Davido noted that he has invested significant time and effort in building his brand, reputation, and loyal fan base, and is now uncertain whether entering politics would be worth the potential risk.

He also pointed to the stark difference in how the public perceives politicians compared to entertainers, suggesting that such a shift could alter how he is viewed by fans and the wider public.

The singer, born David Adeleke, comes from a well-known political family in Osun State. His uncle, Ademola Adeleke, currently serves as the state governor.

His latest comments follow an earlier announcement in December 2025, when he declared his intention to formally join the Accord Party.

Davido rose to prominence in 2012 with the release of his breakout single “Dami Duro” from his debut album Omo Baba Olowo, and has since become one of Africa’s most influential artistes, widely regarded as part of Afrobeats’ “Big Three.”
