FCTA Revokes 485 Abuja Land Allocations Over Forgery Concerns
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has revoked 485 land allocations across Abuja’s area councils after investigations found that the documents presented for regularisation were forged or failed authenticity checks.
The mass cancellation, approved by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was formally communicated through a public notice issued by the FCTA’s Department of Land Administration in collaboration with the Abuja Geographic Information Systems.
Officials said the affected applications did not pass mandatory verification procedures and were consequently declared invalid. The administration confirmed that all such entries will be deleted from the ongoing regularisation database to prevent any future claims tied to the disputed documents.
The notice identified impacted applicants by name, file number, layout and corresponding area council, urging concerned individuals to take note of the development. Authorities added that further announcements or actions may follow as the review process continues.
The revoked allocations span several districts and satellite communities within the FCT. In Bwari Area Council, layouts such as Ushafa Village Expansion Scheme, Ushafa Extension and Dawaki Extension I were affected. In the Abuja Municipal Area Council, cancellations covered areas including Kurudu-Jikwoyi Relocation, Kurudu Commercial, Karu Village Extension, Nyanya Phase IV Extension, Jikwoyi Residential, Sabon Lugbe and Lugbe I Extension. Kuchiyako One Layout in Kuje Area Council was also listed among the affected sites.
Land ownership and allocation within the FCT are regulated under the Land Use Act 1978, which vests control of land in the government, with statutory titles issued under the authority of the FCT Minister and processed through AGIS.
In recent years, the FCTA has intensified efforts to sanitise land administration in the capital, targeting fake titles, multiple allocations and irregular documentation. Officials clarified that the current cancellations are strictly linked to issues of forgery and lack of authenticity, and are unrelated to matters such as unpaid ground rent or non-development of plots.
