FIFA Rankings Update Reflects Morocco’s AFCON ‘Victory’
FIFA’s live rankings now show Morocco gaining points from the forfeited AFCON final against Senegal.
FIFA’s ranking system has begun reflecting the controversial outcome of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, listing the match between Morocco and Senegal as a forfeited fixture. The update shows Morocco awarded a 3–0 victory, in line with the ruling of the Confederation of African Football.
According to FIFA’s live ranking interface, Morocco have gained 18.02 points from the match, bringing their total to 1754.59. The adjustment follows CAF’s appeal decision to overturn the on-field result of the January 18 final in Rabat after Senegal’s players briefly walked off in protest. Under CAF regulations, such conduct can result in forfeiture, which formed the basis for awarding the title to Morocco.
Although FIFA has not issued a formal statement confirming the ranking change, the figures currently displayed are part of its live ranking system, which can incorporate match outcomes ahead of official publication. The next scheduled release of the official rankings is set for April 1.
The development is seen as a significant, if indirect, endorsement of CAF’s decision, reinforcing Morocco’s standing on the global stage as they prepare for upcoming international fixtures.
