First Lady Remi Tinubu Donates ₦1 Billion to Support Displaced Families in Benue
On Tuesday, the First Lady, Remi Tinubu, announced a significant ₦1 billion donation from the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to support families displaced by a brutal herders’ attack in Benue State. The attack, which occurred in June, targeted Yelewata community and resulted in the tragic loss of over 100 lives.
During her condolence visit to the Benue State Government House, held at the New Banquet Hall, Remi Tinubu expressed her profound sorrow over the loss and extended her heartfelt condolences to the people of the state. She assured the displaced families that the donation was part of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s ongoing mission to alleviate their suffering and help them rebuild their lives.
“On behalf of the governing council of the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI will be making a donation of ₦1 billion to help displaced families get back on their feet, return to earning a living, and have a better life. This is in line with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Initiative as captured in our motto: Towards a Better Life for Families,” Remi Tinubustated.
She emphasised the devastating impact of the killings on the families and the larger community, reiterating the urgency of providing support to those who have lost everything.
“I am deeply saddened by the killings that have occurred in recent weeks in the state. As a mother, I urge all of us to learn to accept this time as very challenging. Our job is to play a complementary and supportive role,” the First Lady said.
She also expressed her distress at the unexpected and violent nature of the attacks. “It is heart-wrenching to believe that people want to live in peace, then destruction will come suddenly,” she remarked.
Despite the tragedy, Remi Tinubu shared a message of hope. She acknowledged the difficult times but assured the people that hope was not lost. “So, for me, hope is not lost. We’ve heard you, and I believe my sister, the First Lady of Nasarawa State, has heard you,” she added.
