Sermon Note
God’s Grace in Small Acts
Have you ever thought that your efforts are insignificant? That the little things you do for God won’t matter? Think again!
“Truly, I say to you, if your faith is as tiny as a mustard seed, you can command this mountain to move, and it will. Nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:20
Have you ever thought that your efforts are insignificant? That the little things you do for God won’t matter? Think again!
History is filled with examples of great blessings that began with a small act. A young girl left a Christian tract in the path of a well-known figure. He picked it up, read it, and it led him to Christ. Years later, he became a devoted Christian and wrote a book that led many people to Jesus. What appeared to be a little move, dropping that tract, resulted in a wonderful outcome!
In God’s Kingdom, even the tiniest seed has great potential. Jesus compares the mustard seed to the humble beginnings of our faith, reminding us that greatness often arises from the most unremarkable origins. Just as the mustard seed can grow into a large tree, our faith, no matter how small, can flourish into something remarkable. (Mark 4:31-32).
Consider the disciples, who were ordinary people with little authority but became the foundation of a world-changing movement. Similarly, the first light of truth that reaches our souls may appear little, but it can yield a bountiful harvest in our lives and the lives of others. Simon met Jesus by a simple invitation from his brother, and look at the amazing tree that blossomed from that seed! (John 1:41-42)
Think about your personal Christian journey. Perhaps an encouraging word, a shared prayer, or an invitation to church lit a fire in your heart. Each of us has the ability to plant seeds of faith in others. We may not always see the growth, but we can trust that God is nurturing those seeds into something beautiful.
Have you ever wondered how this tiny seed produces such great results? It’s our willingness to accept God’s grace. We must keep our hearts open to God through the power of faith, just as a seed draws nourishment from soil, sunlight, and air. Even if your faith is small, remember that by opening your heart to God, you invite His powerful presence to work within you, transforming your simple act into a source of strength and beauty. Like the young man who brought his five loaves and two fish to Jesus, or Gideon, who felt insignificant but achieved great triumphs, we too can believe that our small efforts can be multiplied for the greater good. Remember that even a simple stone can kill a giant, and that a small arrow can alter the outcome of a battle.
Beloved, as we prepare to celebrate the eight-year anniversary of Gracevine Chapel, I pray that the Lord will use our small acts of faith to spark significant change in our lives and the lives of others. Amen.
