Ibadan house agent jailed for squandering NYSC corper’s rent money on sports betting

An unnamed house agent who reportedly defrauded a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of the sum of N700,000 has been jailed at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Agodi, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

According to a social media influencer, Honourable Jesugbemi, who narrated the development on X formerly (Twitter) said the corps member reportedly paid ₦700,000 to the house agent for the said apartment.

Jesugbemi wrote, “Omo!!!! This particular house agent collected ₦700,000 from a corper in Ibadan.”

However, trouble began when the corps member wanted to inspect the apartment and retrieve the keys, but the agent evaded him multiple times by giving excuses.

He later admitted that he used part of the money to cater for his personal debts and spent the rest on sports betting. When confronted, the agent told the corps member that he can’t do him anything.

The social media influence added, “On the scheduled day to inspect the apartment again and collect the keys, the agent began giving excuses and became evasive, only to later confess that he had used part of the money to settle his personal debts and squandered the rest on sports betting, boldly claiming there was nothing the victim could do about it.”

r Jesugbemi revealed that he was contacted by the frustrated corps member and advised him to seek legal action.

The influence disclosed that the house agent was arrested, charged to court and has now been remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Agodi, Ibadan, in Oyo State on February 26, 2026.

He wrote, “The corper reached out, and I advised legal action. He has now been arrested, charged to court, and was remanded yesterday at Agodi Prison. Another Win.”

Due to the movement of many Nigerians from the rural areas to the urban centres, there has been a rush for the available houses.

Some homeowners and agents have taken advantage of the situation by inflating the prices of houses, often making it difficult for those in need of houses to rent them.
