ICE Agent Fatally Shoots Woman In Minneapolis, Officials Clash Over Self-Defence Claim

A US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent has fatally shot a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis, triggering public outrage and a sharp dispute between local officials and the Trump administration over the circumstances of her death.
The Department of Homeland Security identified the victim as Renee Nicole Good and alleged she attempted to run over federal officers during an enforcement operation, prompting what it described as defensive gunfire. Federal officials labelled the incident an act of “domestic terrorism.”
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey rejected that account, accusing the agent of reckless use of force and demanding ICE leave the city. “This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying,” Frey said during an emotional press briefing.
Videos circulating on social media show ICE agents confronting Good as she sat in a maroon SUV blocking a residential street. As she attempted to drive away, an agent fired multiple shots, causing the vehicle to crash into a parked car. The footage does not clearly show whether any officer was struck.
President Donald Trump said an ICE agent was “viciously run over” and blamed the “radical left” for escalating threats against federal officers. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the agent fired after Good tried to “weaponise her vehicle.”
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz dismissed the federal narrative as “propaganda” and pledged a full, independent investigation. The FBI has confirmed it is reviewing the incident.
The Minneapolis City Council said Good was helping neighbours at the time and was not posing a threat. Protesters later gathered across the city, calling for ICE’s withdrawal and accountability for the shooting.
The incident occurred about a mile from the site where George Floyd was murdered in 2020, reigniting tensions over policing and federal enforcement in the city. Minneapolis Public Schools cancelled classes for the rest of the week, citing safety concerns.
ICE has deployed hundreds of agents to Minneapolis in recent weeks as part of a broader immigration enforcement campaign by the Trump administration, a move city officials say has destabilised communities and heightened tensions.
