‘It can lead to imprisonment’: Lawyer warns men who ignore the word “stop” during bedroom activity with partner
A Nigerian lawyer identified as Dammy Esquire has cautioned men on the importance of respecting consent during intimate moments with their partners, warning that ignoring a partner’s request to stop could result in serious legal consequences, including imprisonment.
The legal practitioner shared the warning on her X account, formerly known as Twitter, where she stressed that consent must be continuous throughout any intimate encounter and can be withdrawn at any time.
According to her, once a partner clearly says “stop” during an intimate act, the other person is both legally and morally required to halt immediately. She explained that continuing after consent has been withdrawn may be regarded as rape under the law, regardless of whether the activity initially began with mutual agreement.
Dammy Esquire emphasized that many people mistakenly believe that consent given at the beginning of an encounter automatically applies until the end, noting that this assumption can lead to serious legal trouble.
She further warned that engaging in sexual activity without ongoing consent carries severe legal consequences, including possible criminal charges and imprisonment if found guilty.
The lawyer advised individuals to always respect personal boundaries and ensure that consent is freely given and maintained throughout any intimate interaction, stressing that mutual respect and clear communication remain essential in relationships.
The lawyer wrote, “During sêxu@l activity, the moment you already putting your joystick in and out of her kpekus , if she says “stop,” you are legally and morally obligated to stop immediately. Her words mean she has withdrawn consent, and continuing despite her refusal is considered r@p3 under the law. Engaging in sexu@l activity without ongoing consent can lead to serious legal cønsequẽncès, including impr!sonmênt. Always respect boundaries consent must be given freely and can be withdrawn at any time..”
