The Kannywood film industry has been thrown into grief following the death of veteran actress Wasila Isma’il, who passed away at the age of 46 after battling an undisclosed protracted illness.
Her ex-husband, Al-Amin Chiroma, confirmed her passing in a social media post on Sunday, May 24th, 2026.
“Innalillahi Wainna Ilaihirrajiun. Wasila Isma’il is dead. She died at the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria Hospital, Kaduna,” he wrote.
He added that she died on Sunday, May 24, after a long battle with illness.
The late actress is survived by her children.
Wasila Isma’il was a respected name in the Kannywood industry, known for her roles in several Hausa films over the years.
She began her acting journey in 1998 with Jinin Masoya and gained widespread recognition in 1999 after starring in Wasila.
Fans and colleagues have since taken to social media to mourn her, praising her contributions to the Kannywood film industry.
