Nigeria Police Resume Enforcement Of Tinted Glass Permit Nationwide January 2

Police resume tinted glass permit enforcement nationwide from January 2, 2026, citing rising security concerns.

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the resumption of enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, citing rising security concerns and the need to enhance public safety across the country.

In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police clarified that the decision follows a careful assessment of prevailing security challenges and is intended to curb the misuse of vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass.

Hundeyin explained that at no time did any court restrain the Nigeria Police Force from enforcing the relevant laws regulating the use of tinted glass on vehicles.

He noted, however, that enforcement was previously suspended in the interest of transparency, public convenience and responsibility, to allow motorists sufficient time to regularise their documentation and complete the required registration process without undue pressure.

According to the statement, recent developments have shown a troubling increase in criminal activities facilitated by vehicles with unauthorised tinted glass.

Criminals and organised groups, the police said, have exploited this loophole to conceal their identities while committing offences such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.

“In view of this disturbing trend, the Nigeria Police Force considers it both necessary and urgent to resume full enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit as a proactive measure to protect lives and property,” the statement said, adding that enforcement will officially resume on 2 January 2026.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured members of the public that the renewed enforcement would be carried out with professionalism, respect for citizens’ rights and strict adherence to extant laws.

He reiterated the Force’s commitment to public safety, the rule of law and continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders to maintain national security.

Meanwhile, motorists who require a Tinted Glass Permit have been advised to apply through the approved channels and ensure that their vehicles fully comply.
