PDP Governors Call for Calm Ahead of Appeal Court Judgment on Leadership Dispute
The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum has appealed to members and supporters of the party to remain calm as the Court of Appeal prepares to deliver its judgment on the party’s ongoing leadership dispute.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the forum, led by its chairman Bala Mohammed, urged party faithful across the country to respect the judicial process as the court is expected to give its ruling on Monday, March 9, 2026.
The statement, which was signed by Dr Emmanuel Agbo, Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum in Abuja, emphasised the importance of the judiciary in maintaining fairness, impartiality and stability within Nigeria’s democratic system.
According to the forum, the party remains committed to peace and the rule of law regardless of the outcome of the judgment. It noted that the PDP has historically played a major role in strengthening democratic institutions and governance structures that protect the rights of citizens.
The governors therefore called on party leaders, members and supporters to show discipline and maturity in their reactions to the court’s decision. They urged everyone connected to the party to remain law abiding and exercise restraint before, during and after the ruling.
The forum also disclosed that the leadership of the party will hold a meeting immediately after the court delivers its judgment in order to study the implications of the verdict and determine the next line of action for the party.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the forum assured members with political ambitions that the party remains committed to providing a credible platform for them to contest and win elections.
While acknowledging the timetable already released by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the next general elections, the forum said the PDP is determined to protect the political aspirations of its members and strengthen its position as a viable political alternative.
The statement also highlighted that democracy thrives when there is a diversity of opinions, healthy competition of ideas and the freedom of citizens to choose among credible political options.
The PDP Governors’ Forum concluded by reaffirming its respect for the judiciary as a key pillar of democratic governance, assuring Nigerians that the party will continue to participate fully in the democratic process while promoting peace and stability regardless of the court’s decision.
