Peter Obi Lacks Structure to Win, Lawmaker Insists
A member of the House of Representatives, Clement Jimbo, has expressed strong doubts about the electoral chances of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, stating that he does not have the political strength required to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Speaking on the state of democracy in Nigeria, Jimbo said elections are determined by numbers and broad grassroots support. He noted that democracy operates on majority rule and insisted that any candidate seeking to challenge the APC must first demonstrate a strong and organised base across the country.
According to the lawmaker, Obi’s political strategy of moving across party platforms rather than consolidating a stable structure reflects what he described as weak political grounding. He argued that lasting success in Nigerian politics requires patience, organisation and the building of loyal support at the grassroots level.
Jimbo further predicted that Obi would struggle to secure meaningful votes, even at his own polling unit. He maintained that without a solid political network and dependable voter base, defeating the APC would be unrealistic.
His remarks add to ongoing political debates about party structures, coalition strategies and preparations ahead of future elections.
