Suspect Arrested in Assassination of Ukrainian Politician Andriy Parubiy, Says Zelensky

A suspect in the assassination of prominent Ukrainian politician Andriy Parubiy has been arrested, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed early Monday.
Parubiy, 54, was fatally shot on Saturday in Lviv by an attacker disguised as a courier, triggering a nationwide manhunt. Ukraine’s Interior Minister Igor Klymenko said the suspect was apprehended in the western Khmelnytskyi region and that the killing had been “carefully prepared,” with the victim’s travel schedule, routes, and escape plan meticulously mapped out.
Zelensky said he had spoken with chief prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko, who confirmed the suspect had given an initial testimony. “Urgent investigative actions are currently underway to establish all the circumstances of this murder,” the president wrote on social media, praising law enforcement and prosecutors for “working around the clock.”
Unverified footage of the attack appeared to show the gunman dressed in a delivery uniform approaching Parubiy from behind and opening fire. Lviv police chief Oleksandr Shliakhovskyi said the attacker discharged about eight rounds.
Sources later stated that, the suspect had posed as a worker for Glovo, a food delivery service, which said it was “deeply shocked” and pledged full cooperation with investigators.
Parubiy, who served as speaker of Ukraine’s parliament between 2016 and 2019, was a central figure in the 2013–2014 Euromaidan protests that toppled pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych. He organised the “self-defence” brigades that guarded protesters in Kyiv’s Independence Square, cementing his role in Ukraine’s pro-European movement.
The motive behind his killing remains unclear, but officials say more details will be released as the investigation unfolds.
