Synapse Technologies Delivers Training on Anton Paar Microwave Digestion System (Multiwave Go Plus) at University of Lagos

Synapse Technologies recently conducted a specialized training session on the Anton Paar Microwave Digestion System (Multiwave Go Plus) for final-year and doctoral students of the Faculty of Science, University of Lagos. The training was hosted by the Institute of Maritime Studies (IMS) as part of its commitment to building research capacity within the university.

During the session, participants learned why microwave digestion has become the preferred method for modern laboratories. Synapse Technologies demonstrated the Multiwave Go Plus’s impressive capabilities, including processing up to 12 samples simultaneously in just 20 minutes, with vessels capable of handling 3 grams of material each.

Featuring TURBO heating and cooling technology—cooling samples from 180°C to 70°C in only 8 minutes—the system also incorporates SmartVent safety technology, PTFE acid-resistant vessels, and an intuitive software interface. Its compact and cost-effective design, coupled with GS approval and ETL certification, makes it a powerful yet user-friendly instrument for sample preparation.

Students gained detailed knowledge of the instrument’s applications in trace element analysis across various fields such as environmental science, food safety, marine research, industrial chemistry, pharmaceuticals, geochemistry, metallurgy, and materials engineering.

A key highlight was the hands-on demonstration where students were guided through operating the Multiwave Go Plus—from loading rotor vessels to selecting digestion parameters—with emphasis on routine maintenance and safety protocols. An interactive Q&A session followed, addressing energy efficiency, digestion times, sample compatibility, and system durability, further enhancing participants’ confidence in using the system.

Professor Abiodun Mary Odukoya, Director of IMS, praised the institute’s growing capacity to support research both within and beyond the university. She affirmed that IMS is equipped to provide microwave digestion services to other faculties, institutions, and laboratories requiring fast and reliable sample preparation solutions.

“This is our contribution to enhancing scientific outcomes in Nigeria,” Professor Odukoya said. “At the core of every accurate result is a properly prepared sample.” She added that the training underscores the University of Lagos’s commitment to academic excellence, practical skill-building, and research innovation by investing in relevant technologies and expertise to empower its scholars for real-world impact.
