Tinubu To Appoint Ambassadors Amid Rising Diplomatic Tensions With US, ARISE News Confirms

Tinubu has authorised security services to conclude vetting of new ambassadors as Nigeria faces growing diplomatic pressure from United States.

ARISE News can confirm that President Bola Tinubu will imminently announce new ambassadors for critical strategic nations as part of a multi-strategic approach to stem the recent threat of military intervention by US President Donald Trump.

The President has reportedly directed the security services to conclude vetting immediately, with new ambassadors expected to be appointed as early as next week.

According to senior officials, the move marks the final stage in Nigeria’s long-delayed ambassadorial appointments following months of limited diplomatic representation abroad.

The diplomatic overhaul traces back to Tinubu’s September 2023 directive recalling all ambassadors from Nigeria’s 109 foreign missions as part of a broad restructuring. Since then, most embassies have been managed by chargés d’affaires, a situation career diplomats argue has weakened Nigeria’s influence abroad, especially in sensitive negotiations.

Foreign service officials emphasised that ambassador-level representation is critical as Nigeria navigates complex international dynamics.

The renewed urgency to complete the appointments comes amid rising tension with Washington following Trump’s recent threats of military action over disputed claims of Christian persecution in Nigeria.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
