UNIABUJA Expels 28 Students Over Exam Fraud, Cultism and Forged Records
The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) has expelled 28 students over various acts of misconduct, including examination fraud, cult involvement and falsification of admission documents.
The decision was taken at a recent Senate meeting of the institution. In a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Director of Information, Habib Yakoob, the university said the action followed recommendations presented by its Student Disciplinary Committee after a detailed review of multiple cases.
According to the statement, the affected students were found culpable of offences such as threats to life, physical assault, conspiracy, burglary and theft. Other allegations included participation in cult activities, possession and use of illicit drugs and involvement in examination malpractice.
The university further disclosed that some of the expelled students were accused of uploading forged O Level results on the institution’s admission portal. Others reportedly failed to honour repeated invitations to appear before the disciplinary panel.
In a related move, the Senate approved the withdrawal of certificates previously issued to 15 former students who allegedly ignored several summonses from the disciplinary committee.
However, nine students who were investigated in connection with the cases were cleared after no evidence of wrongdoing was established.
In addition, 33 students received formal warnings for different acts of misconduct, including conspiracy, hostel racketeering and fighting.
Reacting to the outcome, Vice Chancellor Hakeem Fawehinmi reaffirmed the university’s resolve to uphold discipline and protect academic standards. He stated that the institution would continue to enforce its rules strictly to maintain a secure and orderly academic environment. Fawehinmi also commended the Student Disciplinary Committee for its work and advised students to conduct themselves responsibly to safeguard their academic future.
