Mascherano Steps Down As Inter Miami CF Manager After Historic MLS Cup Triumph

Javier Mascherano resigns as Inter Miami coach citing personal reasons after leading club to first-ever MLS Cup title in 2025.

Former Liverpool FC and FC Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano has stepped down as manager of Inter Miami CF, citing personal reasons.

The 41-year-old, who took charge in 2024, guided the club to a historic milestone by securing their first MLS Cup title in 2025. In a statement, Mascherano confirmed his decision to end his tenure, expressing gratitude and pride over the achievement.

“I will always carry with me the memory of our first star,” he said, adding that he will continue to support the club from afar.

Mascherano previously shared the pitch at FC Barcelona with current Miami stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, and also coached Argentina at the 2024 Olympics before taking the Miami job.

Guillermo Hoyos, formerly the club’s sporting director and a previous Barcelona B coach, has been appointed as his immediate successor.

Inter Miami currently sit third in the MLS Eastern Conference after seven matches, having drawn 2-2 with the New York Red Bulls last weekend.
