Mascherano Steps Down As Inter Miami Coach After MLS Victory
Four months after guiding Inter Miami CF to its first MLS Cup victory, Javier Mascherano abruptly announced his resignation as head coach.
The Argentine’s successful tenure as manager came to an abrupt end when he resigned for “personal reasons,” the club confirmed in a statement.
Mascherano thanked the team and its players for their shared journey, according to his own words.
“I want to let everyone know that, for personal reasons, I have decided to end my tenure as head coach of Inter Miami CF,” he said.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank the club for the trust they placed in me, every employee who is part of the organisation for the collective effort, but especially the players, who made it possible for us to experience unforgettable moments.”
Inter Miami CF acknowledged his contribution and confirmed changes in the technical structure. Club owner Jorge Mas paid tribute to the departing coach.
“Javier will forever be part of this club’s history and will always hold a special place in the Inter Miami CF family,” Mas said. “We respect his decision and are deeply grateful for everything he contributed, wishing him nothing but the very best in his professional and personal future.”
After taking over for Gerardo Martino in 2024, Mascherano, a former Argentina international and former teammate of Lionel Messi at both the club and national levels, had been in charge for about eighteen months. Inter Miami’s competitive standing was altered under his direction as the team advanced to several finals and won their first MLS Cup.
