AWAMN President Inducted as Grand Patron of CityScope Africa at 2026 Sustainability Conference

The National President of the Assicuation of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN) was inducted on Friday 27th March, 2026 as the Grand Patron of CityScope Africa – one of the foremost media outfit in Africa that promotes Circular Economy, Waste Management and Sustainable development initiatives. This is in recognition of his immense support to City Scope Africa activities and lifelong commitment to Circular Economy and Sustainable Development initiatives, for Environmental Sustainability and Business Ecosystem in Nigeria, Regional Social Impact in Africa and collective global Good.

The investiture certificate/award was presented by Prof. Chinwe Obuaku-Igwe – The Special Envoy to Osun State Governor & Director General on Climate Change and Renewable Energy of Osun State.
Prof Obuaku-Igwe expressed her personal appreciation and admiration for Dr Adebola whom she described a pilar in the sustainability Ecosystem in Nigeria and globally. She noted that he was one of the few people in the industry that gave her visibilty and taught her how to navigate the Ecosystem.

The investiture ceremony was part of the events of 2026 African Circular Business & Environmental Sustainability Conference (AfCBC), Awards AND Special Magazine Unveiling held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The special magazine unveiling was in honor of Dr. Oladimeji Oresanya, the Honourable Commisioner for Environment, Ogun State. Dr. Oresanya – A renowned Internationa Waste Management Expert also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN) in recognition of his remarkable contribution and dedication to Waste Management, Environmental sustainability & Unflinching Support to AWAMN.

Earlier in his speech, Dr. Oresanya paid glowing tribute to Dr. Adebola for his immense contributions to Integrated Waste Management Practice in Nigeria and West Africa. He noted that they have been in the trenches together for a very long time now covering close to 3 decades within the waste management Ecosystem.

Dr. Adebola had earlier delivered a paper at the Conference titled: Enabling Practices, Incentives & Regulatory Frameworks for Circular Businesses.

In his presentation, Dr. Adebola opined that everyone must take responsibility about their environment, he noted that “Our existence in life is dependent on the Environment we live in” he also stated that “It is what we give to the Environment, that the Environment gives back to us”. He drew the connection between the state of our Environment and our well-being or ill-health.
He further stated that it is expected that the Government provide enabling Environment for the private sector to invest massive in Circular Economy Models, these he listed as provision of longterm Concession Agreement to cover the armotization period of accessed funding, Provision of Irrevocable Infrastructure Support Payment Option (ISPO) to ensure and guarantee return on Investment, Provision of incentives to encourage source segregation of waste, especially plastic waste to reduce pollution. Rejigging the existing policies through stronger policy formulation, implementation, monitoring and enforcement while all identified stakeholders must be carried along. He called for the establishment of Green Bank that would provide long-term loan at single digit to all businesses in the sustainability Ecosystem. He submitted that the investment required by the industry is long-term.
