Breaking News: Court Frees El-Rufai On Bail
Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has been granted bail in the amount of ₦100 million with one surety in the same amount by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
When rendering the decision, Justice Abdulmalik set a number of strict requirements that the accused must fulfill in order to be granted bail.
The court ruled that the proposed surety must deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property at the court registry and must live in either the Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja.
Additionally, the surety must be a federal civil servant at least Grade Level 17 and present proof of salary payments for a minimum of three months, verified by a letter from the manager of a bank under the court’s jurisdiction.
In addition, the court mandated that the surety sign an affidavit of means, sign a bail bond, and provide the court registry with a recent passport photo.
El-Rufai must deposit all current international passports with the court registry as part of the bail requirements.
Along with a tax clearance certificate for the previous six months, the court ordered the submission of a verification letter from the surety’s immediate department.
In addition, Justice Abdulmalik mandated that the defendant appear at the Department of State Services headquarters by 10 a.m. on the final Friday of each month in order to sign an attendance register while the case is being decided.
The judge issued a warning that the bail would be automatically revoked if the conditions were not met.
The defendant was also ordered by the court to provide a letter of attestation from the Kaduna Traditional Council Chairman.
This development marks a significant turn in the ongoing legal proceedings involving El-Rufai. As the court grants him bail, all eyes will now be on the next steps in the case.
