Disney Becomes First Studio To Hit $2 Billion In 2026 Global Box Office On ‘Prada 2’ Surge
Disney becomes the first major Hollywood studio in 2026 to cross the $2 billion global box office mark, driven by the continued dominance of 20th Century Studios’ The Devil Wears Prada 2 and a slate of strong performers across its film portfolio.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 leads the charge in its second weekend, earning $118.8m worldwide, bringing its global total to $433.2m. The sequel holds strongly in key international markets including the UK, Germany, Italy, Australia, Japan, Korea, Brazil and Mexico, where it remains the top non-local release in multiple territories.
The film, directed by David Frankel, has already surpassed the lifetime global gross of the original 2006 Devil Wears Prada, cementing its status as one of Disney’s standout performers of the year.
Other contributors to the studio’s milestone include Hoppers with $371.6m, Send Help at $94m, alongside continuing earnings from earlier releases such as Avatar: Fire & Ash and Zootopia 2.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros’ Mortal Kombat II opens to a global total of $63m, with an estimated $40m domestic debut and $23m from international markets across 78 territories. While slightly below projections, the video game adaptation still tracks ahead of the 2021 original’s pandemic-era performance.
Elsewhere, Amazon/MGM’s The Sheep Detectives launches with $28m globally, while Paramount’s Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard & Soft concert film opens to $20.1m worldwide, boosted by strong 3D ticket sales.
Disney’s milestone underscores its continued dominance at the global box office, becoming the first studio this year to surpass the $2 billion threshold amid a competitive international slate.
