Dispatch Riders Eating People’s Food: A Wake-Up Call On Hunger And Society
Today, I had the opportunity to watch a program on TVC called Your View, and it sparked a thought that I believe many of us are also pondering. During the show, the discussion centered around dispatch riders eating food while on the road—food that is meant for delivery to customers. This act of eating on the move raises a question: Is it driven by hunger or perhaps a longer throat?
Why would a dispatch rider, whose job is to deliver food, start eating the food on the road? What motivates them to take what isn’t theirs? Is it mere hunger, or is there something deeper at play? Could it be that these riders are extremely hungry and see no other option? Or does this reflect a failure in responsibility—either on the part of the employees or their employers?
In considering this, it’s important to acknowledge that if someone is genuinely hungry, shouldn’t their employer or the company they work for ensure they are adequately fed?
For instance, in a food delivery business, it would make sense to provide breakfast and lunch for dispatch riders to prevent such temptations. After all, it’s their responsibility to deliver food, not to eat it along the way.
So, whose fault is it? Is it the dispatch rider’s fault for giving in to hunger, or the employer’s fault for not providing enough or proper nourishment? Or are we looking at a bigger societal issue—perhaps the economic hardships in our country that push people to such extremes?
This is undoubtedly a trying time for everyone. Economic challenges can lead to desperate acts, and perhaps, this is one of those acts. As TMO once said, a dispatch rider’s job is not meant to be a lifelong career but rather a stepping stone to better opportunities. Still, that doesn’t justify stealing or taking what isn’t theirs.
In conclusion, I ask: What can we do as a society—employers, government, or individuals—to address the underlying issues that lead to such situations? How can we ensure that our workers are adequately supported and motivated?
Please share your thoughts—what do you think is really behind dispatch riders eating food on the road? Is it hunger, responsibility, societal pressure, or something else entirely?

They are not to eat from the food meant for despatch. That is against the ethics of the job and it is also likened to stealing.
