Fela Kuti Makes History As First African Artist Inducted Into Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, a renowned musician from Nigeria, is the first artist from Nigeria to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Along with American rapper Queen Latifah, Cuban icon Celia Cruz, rapper MC Lyte, and country rock pioneer Gram Parsons, Fela will be honored in the “Early Influence” category.

The list of honorees was revealed during an American Idol broadcast on Monday night in the United States.

British singer Sade Adu, who was born in Nigeria, will also receive recognition in the “Performer” category.

Alongside Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan, she is well-known.

The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on November 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.

Fela also made history as the first African musician to win the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in January .
