Kwara Court Sentences General Overseer To Life Imprisonment For Alleged Abuse Of Minors

The Kwara State High Court in IIorin sentenced Prophet Ajiboye Abayomi Olayinka, General Overseer of Mission House of Divine Land of Joy and Prayer Ministry, to life in prison for ping three of his congregation’s minors on the church grounds.

For three separate offenses that bordered on unlawful sexual relations with 13-year-old minors, the convict received three life sentences.

The court found that the crimes were committed within the church’s mission house in Ganmo’s Agah neighborhood, where he was a spiritual leader.

Olayinka was also sentenced to 14 years in prison for illegally terminating multiple pregnancies of his victims, threatening them not to tell anyone about the illegal act.

According to the trial judge, Justice Hammed Aliyu Gegele, the convict used his position as a clergyman to turn his victims into s3x machines, abusing them physically and mentally.

The court narrated how one of the victims recounted her ordeal with the prophet.

“He took her to the generator house to forcefully have s3x with her using anointing oil as lubricant and also woke her up after vigils for rounds of s3x”, Gegele recounted.

The defendant was arraigned on an eight-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, unlawful sexual intercourse with minors, illegal abortion, and unlawful possession of firearms.

The charges were brought under Sections 97, 235, and 283 of the Penal Code, Section 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, 2004, as well as Section 31(2) of the Kwara State Child Rights Law, 2006.

During the hearing, the prosecution called twelve (12) witnesses and tendered exhibits.

In their testimonies, the victims alleged that the convict administered anointing oil on their private parts in a ritual-like manner before subjecting them to forceful s3xual abuse inside the mission house.

They also told the court that he allegedly forced them to take a Bible-based oath of secrecy and threatened to kill them if they revealed what had happened.

Chief State Counsel Issa Zakari led the prosecution team, which vigorously cross-examined the defendant and his witnesses in court on February 11, 2026.

Written arguments were submitted and accepted at the end of the defense, and the case was then postponed until after the verdict.

Delivering the verdict on Wednesday May 13, Justice Gegele held that the prosecution had successfully proved the offences of unlawful s3xual intercourse with minors, r@pe, and illegal abortion against the convict, but failed to establish the charge of bigamy.

The court therefore discharged the defendant on the count of bigamy.

In his pronouncement, Justice Gegele described the defendant as “a pedophile and philanderer whose conduct should be deprecated by all and sundry in society.”

The judge also ordered the forfeiture of a pump-action gun recovered from the defendant to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

That man is nothing but an animal, and he should be treated as such. I truly cannot understand why some people would want to ruin and destroy the lives of innocent minors who are placed in their care, all for their selfish interests.

What is this world turning into? People do whatever they like without any fear of God, showing no regard for the trauma and suffering they cause to those vulnerable children. May God help us all and guide us to do better.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
