Lagos Delivers Chevron–Admiralty Stretch As 28km Lekki–Ajah Corridor Upgrade Progresses

Lagos completes 9km Lagos-bound carriageway in 27 days, advancing phased 28km Lekki corridor rehabilitation plan.

The Lagos State Government has completed the rehabilitation of the Lagos-bound Chevron to Admiralty stretch of the Lekki–Ajah Road, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing upgrade of one of the state’s busiest transport corridors.

The development was disclosed in a statement shared on the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the 9-kilometre Lagos-bound carriageway from Chevron to Admiralty was delivered in just 27 days, surpassing the projected 41-day completion timeline. The government described the stretch as a critical component of the wider 28-kilometre rehabilitation project spanning from the Lekki–Ajah Bridge to Admiralty across both carriageways.

Officials confirmed that the broader 28km corridor is being executed in phases to minimise disruption along the heavily trafficked route. While the Lagos-bound section between Chevron and Admiralty has now been completed, work on the Epe-bound carriageway is scheduled to commence shortly as part of the phased implementation plan.

During an inspection of the project, Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, reiterated that the phased approach is designed to ensure systematic delivery while maintaining traffic flow along the corridor. He noted that the Lekki–Ajah axis serves as a major commuter and commercial route and requires careful coordination to avoid gridlock during construction.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, attributed the early completion of the 9km stretch largely to the implementation of a comprehensive Traffic Management Plan. The strategy included coordinated deployment of traffic management personnel, continuous on-ground supervision and real-time monitoring to ease congestion and maintain order throughout the construction period.

The government also commended residents and road users for their cooperation during the rehabilitation works and assured that traffic control measures would remain active as construction progresses across the remaining sections of the corridor.

The latest completion comes two weeks after authorities announced the delivery of the Chevron–Chisco stretch along the Lekki–Epe Expressway. That phase of work included asphalt resurfacing and drainage repairs aimed at improving commuter safety and enhancing traffic flow.

At the time, the government disclosed that the larger expressway rehabilitation project had been divided into six sections. The Chevron–Igbo-Efon, Igbo-Efon–Jakande and Jakande–Chisco stretches—covering a combined 4.51 kilometres—have now been completed under that segmentation plan.

Rehabilitation of the Lekki–Epe Expressway commenced on January 25, 2026, covering a 20-kilometre stretch from Admiralty to Jubilee Bridge on both carriageways, with the overall construction timeline set at 64 days. Although initially scheduled for November 2025, the project was deferred during the Yuletide season despite contracts having already been awarded.

The Lekki–Epe corridor remains a critical transport artery linking Victoria Island, Lekki and the Epe axis. It supports thousands of daily commuters and facilitates the movement of goods and services across Lagos State. The rehabilitation project employs flexible pavement (asphalt) technology and is divided into eight sections to reduce traffic disruption while ensuring steady progress.

Authorities say the ongoing phased upgrades form part of broader efforts to strengthen infrastructure delivery, address rising traffic volumes and improve mobility along the rapidly expanding Lekki corridor.
