Nigeria Police Repatriates Wanted Chinese Gang Leader in Landmark INTERPOL Operation

Fugitive gang leader Dai Qisheng, wanted in China for violent crimes, arrested in Abuja and repatriated by INTERPOL.

The Nigeria Police Force has successfully repatriated a high-profile fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to China in what authorities described as a landmark INTERPOL-led operation.

The operation was executed through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria. Police said the move underscores Nigeria’s growing commitment to international partnerships in the fight against transnational organised crime.

Dai, a notorious gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province, China, for orchestrating and leading violent organised crimes, fled his country in 2024 after the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County issued a warrant for his arrest. He sought refuge in Nigeria but was tracked and apprehended by operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja on August 8, 2025, in the capital city.

Following his arrest, the fugitive was repatriated to Beijing on August 15, 2025, under the framework of police-to-police cooperation coordinated by INTERPOL.

“The arrest and repatriation of Dai Qisheng sends a clear message to criminals worldwide that Nigeria will not be a hiding place for fugitives,” said Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM.

He added that the Force would continue to strengthen its international alliances, leveraging intelligence-sharing and operational collaboration “to ensure that borders never become barriers to justice.”

Police authorities noted that the successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of cross-border law enforcement in confronting the increasingly complex threats posed by global crime networks.

Force spokesperson DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi described the repatriation as a milestone for Nigeria and reaffirmed the Force’s determination to ensure no fugitive finds safe haven within the country.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
