NPA Urges Traders to Leverage New Export Channels
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, has called on traders and investors to take advantage of newly introduced export channels to reposition Nigeria more competitively in the global market.
Speaking on Saturday during the 2026 NPA Special Day celebration, Dantsoho said the authority has introduced simplified export processes aimed at removing long-standing bureaucratic obstacles that have discouraged participation in non-oil exports.
He explained that the reforms are designed to boost non-oil export volumes, strengthen Nigeria’s trade balance and integrate producers from the hinterland into global supply chains.
Central to the reform is the introduction of Export Process Terminals, which he described as one-stop hubs that handle consolidation, stuffing, packaging, documentation, certification and electronic scheduling of export cargo.
According to him, the terminals were conceptualised to simplify what was previously a complex and burdensome export procedure. He urged members of the trading and investing community to explore the tailor-made processes and opportunities now available within the NPA system.
Dantsoho added that the Export Process Terminals are electronically integrated with port operations through the call-up system, ensuring faster cargo evacuation and improved turnaround time. He noted that exporters can now complete documentation, packaging and shipment coordination in a more seamless and efficient manner.
The NPA boss further disclosed that the authority is collaborating with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council to strengthen port-hinterland connectivity. He said the partnership will link Export Process Terminals with Domestic Export Warehouses to create structured pathways for small and medium enterprises to participate in international trade.
Dantsoho maintained that trade remains Nigeria’s most viable instrument for achieving its economic aspirations, especially as the country continues efforts to diversify away from oil dependence.
