Victor Osimhen has been named among the final three nominees for the 2025 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award, reaffirming his status as one of Africa’s standout footballers.
CAF announced the shortlist on Sunday, with Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah completing the trio of finalists.
Osimhen, who won the prestigious award in 2023, is coming off an exceptional season with Galatasaray. The Nigerian striker scored 26 league goals, playing a decisive role in the club’s title triumph. His consistent performances prompted Galatasaray to break the Turkish transfer record, sealing his permanent move from Napoli for €75 million.
Beyond club football, Osimhen was also pivotal to Nigeria’s push for a place at the 2026 World Cup. He netted eight goals across the qualification group stage and the playoffs, underscoring his influence on the national team.
Nigeria received additional recognition across various categories. Rasheedat Ajibade was listed among the final contenders for the 2025 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award, while Chiamaka Nnadozie secured a place on the shortlist for Goalkeeper of the Year. Moshood Shakirat also earned a nomination for the Women’s Best Young Player prize.
The Super Falcons were nominated for the Women’s National Team of the Year award, highlighting another strong year for Nigerian women’s football.
