Peter Obi Decries UTME Registration Chaos in Anambra, Urges Swift Action

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has expressed concern over the congestion and delays confronting candidates seeking to register for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination at the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board office in Amawbia, Anambra State.

Obi, in a post on his verified X account, said a recent visit to the area revealed large crowds of prospective candidates struggling to complete their registration, describing the situation as both discouraging and avoidable.

He noted that similar complaints were made during last year’s registration exercise after several Computer-Based Test centres were sanctioned over alleged infractions. According to him, many had expected that the issues would have been resolved before the current exercise began.

While acknowledging that regulatory authorities may have grounds for suspending erring centres, Obi maintained that contingency arrangements should be put in place to prevent students from suffering undue hardship. He suggested that affected centres could operate under closer supervision or that previously accredited facilities be temporarily reactivated to reduce pressure on existing offices.

With the registration deadline drawing near, he warned that the delays could prevent some candidates, particularly those travelling long distances from rural communities, from completing the process in time.

Obi stressed that access to education should not be hindered by administrative gaps and called on the appropriate authorities to take urgent steps to ease the situation and ensure that no qualified candidate is left out due to logistical challenges.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

QUOTES

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
