We often seek favour and honour, yet it is essential to recognize that these gifts come solely from God. This favour, often referred to as grace, is unconditional in nature, yet it invites us into a relationship that requires our active participation. God freely gives His grace, but we must put our faith into action to experience its fullness.
Imagine a farmer who dreams of a bountiful harvest. God provides the seeds and the fertile land, but the farmer must till the soil and sow the seeds. Similarly, God offers us salvation, but we must believe in His promises and demonstrate that faith by following Christ. Victory over temptation is another gift from God, yet we must put on our spiritual armor and confront temptation as if the outcome depended solely on our efforts. This dynamic illustrates that while all blessings originate from God, we have a role to play in receiving them.
Psalm 84:11 (AMP) beautifully encapsulates this truth: “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows grace and favour and honour; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” This scripture invites us to reflect on the nature of God’s generosity and the conditions under which we can receive His blessings.
Our relationship with God is at the heart of divine favour; when we honour Him, we position ourselves to receive His abundant blessings.
Jesus exemplified this truth in His prayer, asking the Father to glorify Him so that He could return that glory to God (John 17:1). This reciprocal relationship highlights the importance of humility and a heart set on honouring God above all else. The key to receiving God’s glory lies in humble submission to His will. Jesus, though divine, chose to serve humbly (Philippians 2:5–11). This attitude of servitude is what God honours. When we serve God with a pure heart, we can trust that He will exalt us in due time. The pursuit of glory should not be our primary focus; instead, we should seek to serve God faithfully, and glory will naturally follow.
One of the most profound ways to honour God is by standing up for righteousness, even at a personal cost. The stories of biblical figures like Joseph, Esther, and Daniel illustrate the power of integrity and courage in the face of adversity. Their commitment to God’s will not only honoured Him but also led to their eventual exaltation and favour.
When we choose righteousness over convenience, we align ourselves with God’s purposes and invite His blessings into our lives.
Generosity is another vital aspect of honoring God. The act of giving—whether through tithes, offerings, or acts of kindness—demonstrates our acknowledgment of God as the source of all blessings. Proverbs 3:9 encourages us to “honour the LORD with your substance and the first fruits of all your increase.” When we prioritize God over our possessions, we open the door to His favour and provision.
If you find yourself feeling devoid of favour or constantly facing rejection, consider the possibility that a shift in focus may be necessary. Pursuing a life of deliberate righteousness with a heart committed to honouring God can transform your circumstances. Let us remember that our ultimate goal in life is to glorify God in all we do. By cultivating humility, standing for righteousness, and honouring God with our resources, we position ourselves to receive His abundant blessings.
