Rewriting Traditions: The Ooni Of Ife’s Bold Take On Men And Multiple Wives

In a personal reflection on his life as a polygamist, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, acknowledged that he occasionally gets shy when he considers how many wives he currently has.

The monarch claims that when he was younger, he used to disparage men who had numerous wives. He claimed that he was never able to comprehend how these men handled their relationships and homes.

In his words;

“I am always shy with the numerous wives I have because when I was younger, I used to abuse people with many wives and wonder how they cope, but see me doing same today,” he said.

Life indeed is a journey of surprises and growth. Things we once disliked or never imagined ourselves doing often become part of our reality as we grow older and wiser. It’s a reminder that life happens, and sometimes, the paths we never planned for are the ones that teach us the most.

Embracing this truth helps us to accept ourselves and the twists and turns that come with the passage of time.
