Super Eagles Set For Poland, Portugal Friendlies After Unity Cup Defence

Nigeria lines up June friendlies against Poland and Portugal after Unity Cup defence.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles will take on Poland and Portugal in high-profile international friendlies this June, following their participation in the Unity Cup tournament in London.

Despite failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the three-time African champions are set for a packed summer schedule, beginning with the defence of their Unity Cup title in London between May 26 and May 30.

The Nigeria Football Federation’s FIFA Match Agent, Jairo Pachon of Eurodata Sport, confirmed on Thursday that the Super Eagles will face Poland at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw on June 3.

The team will then travel to Portugal for a second friendly on June 10, with the venue yet to be announced.

The encounter against Portugal, also known as the Seleção das Quinas, will serve as the European side’s final match before departing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico.

Nigeria head into the fixtures on the back of recent international outings in Antalya, Turkey, where they defeated World Cup-bound Iran and played out a 2-2 draw with Jordan.

An Eagles insider said the team is anticipating “a very exciting summer” as preparations intensify for the upcoming matches.

We are not trapped or locked up in these bones. No, no. We are free to change. And love changes us. And if we can love one another, we can break open the sky.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
