Uche Montana’s Monica 2 Surpasses 10 Million Views In Just Two Days

Uche Montana, a Nollywood actress and director, achieved a significant digital milestone when her most recent movie, Monica 2, received over 10 million views on YouTube in just two days after it was released.

The sequel, which debuted on her YouTube channel, Uche Montana TV, on May 2, 2026, quickly became popular, further solidifying Nollywood’s increasing reliance on digital distribution.

The movie attracted a sizable audience within hours of its premiere, reaching roughly 1.2 million views in four hours, more than four million in the first twelve, and more than six million in a day.

The figures on the platform show that by today, May 4, it had surpassed 10 million.

Montana thanked her audience in response to the accomplishment, writing, “10M in 2 days.” God alone, no explanation.

The success of the first Monica, which also garnered millions of views in a matter of weeks after its release earlier in 2026, is built upon in Monica 2. The franchise has swiftly emerged as one of the year’s most notable YouTube-driven Nollywood productions.

The movie follows Montana’s character Monica as she adjusts to married life and negotiates complicated family dynamics, especially conflicts with her mother (played by Blessing Onwukwe).

Along with other cast members like John Ekanem, actor Joseph Momodu, who plays her husband, has received praise from the audience for his performance.

The sequel’s themes of family conflict, personal development, and setting boundaries have been praised by viewers for its emotional depth, relatability, and compelling narrative.

Monica 2’s success is indicative of a larger trend in Nollywood, where YouTube releases are rivaling and sometimes even surpassing traditional cinema distribution.

Omoni Oboli’s Love in Every Word franchise, which has achieved remarkable digital numbers, is among the most prominent examples. Shortly after its 2025 release, the first installment garnered millions of views, eventually surpassing 30 million, while its follow-up, Love in Every Word 2:

Every Word Is Full of Love 2: In its first two days, The Wedding received more than six million views, and it kept growing.

Similar to Monica 2, the films became popular due to their compelling narratives, emotional resonance, and social media virality, underscoring the increasing impact of direct-to-YouTube distribution on Nigerian filmmakers.

Montana’s status as one of a new generation of filmmakers redefining the production, distribution, and consumption of Nigerian films is further cemented by the quick success of Monica 2.

Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." - Mahatma Gandh
