Uganda’s President Museveni Sworn In For Seventh Term At Age 81

Following his victory in Uganda’s disputed presidential election in January, President Yoweri Museveni was officially inaugurated for a seventh consecutive term, extending his nearly forty-year-long leadership.

Prior to the inauguration ceremony, a strong security presence was observed throughout Kampala, with security personnel and armored vehicles positioned in key areas. The deployments, according to the authorities, were intended to maintain order and avoid disturbances during the event.

The 81-year-old Museveni is anticipated to hold office until 2031 after receiving more than 70% of the vote in the election.

Nonetheless, opposition organizations and observers have continued to criticize the result.

Bobi Wine, his principal opponent, rejected the results, claiming widespread irregularities such as voter intimidation and ballot stuffing.

I wish President Museveni well as he begins his new term.

However, considering his age, it might be time for him to step aside and allow the younger generation to take the helm. Having served for seven terms, his leadership has been longstanding, and now could be an appropriate moment for a new era to begin in Uganda’s politics.
