Zambia Revenue Authority Intercepts Smuggled Goods Worth K1.3 Million

In a significant crackdown on smuggling, the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has intercepted an interlink truck loaded with 32 bulk tanks and 40 drums of undeclared goods, leading to an estimated revenue loss of K1.3 million. The interception took place at the ZAWA checkpoint in Livingstone, where ZRA officials escorted the truck to the Enforcement Centre for verification.

ZRA’s Manager of Corporate Communications, Oliver Nzala, confirmed that the truck was carrying large quantities of ethanol and aluminium powder that had entered Zambia illegally through the Kazungula border. The seized items included 32 tanks of ethanol (1,000 litres each), 40 drums of ethanol (210 litres each), and 10 buckets of aluminium powder (25kg each).

Nzala reiterated the ZRA’s commitment to enforcing customs laws and warned that individuals and entities involved in smuggling would face severe penalties, including prosecution. He emphasized that smuggling is a serious offense that can result in heavy fines, imprisonment, and the forfeiture of vehicles used in such activities. The ZRA plans to intensify its enforcement operations to protect national revenue.
