CAF President Pays Courtesy Visit To Senegal Following AFCON Title Dispute

Published on

Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe has arrived in Dakar as part of an official visit to Senegal, where he will meet with influential members of the country’s football administration. He was welcomed by the head of the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football, Abdoulaye Fall on Wednesday.

Prior to speaking to the media at a press conference, Motsepe is expected to meet with Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the president of Senegal.

The trip takes place weeks after Senegal’s victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations was controversially overturned by CAF’s Appeals Board. Despite Senegal’s initial victory over Morocco in the final on January 18, the outcome was later overturned, with Morocco emerging victorious.

After some of Senegal’s players left the field in protest of a referee’s call during the game, CAF declared that Senegal had broken Articles 82 and 84 of the tournament’s rules.
