Joao Cancelo, a Barcelona defender, has referred to teammate Gavi as the Blaugrana’s soul.
Prior to Barcelona’s first-leg match against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal on Wednesday, Cancelo gave a statement at his pre-match press conference.
“Gavi is the soul of the team,” Cancelo said as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
“Everything he does, on and off the field. He’s a really cheerful guy who lays into you during training sessions, and in the end, that also makes us all start bringing more intensity.”
In 2015, Gavi left Betis to join Barcelona’s youth team. In 2021, the 21-year-old was elevated to Barcelona’s first squad.
