Trump Signals Possible Seizure Of Iran Oil Hub As Conflict Intensifies

Trump weighs seizing Kharg Island while hinting quick deal, as strikes intensify and oil prices surge globally.

Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated sharply after President Donald Trump said he is considering seizing Iran’s key oil export hub, Kharg Island, while also suggesting a peace agreement could be reached quickly.

Speaking on the growing conflict, Trump declared that the US could “take the oil in Iran” and indicated that Kharg Island, a critical terminal for Iran’s crude exports could become a strategic target.

The remarks came as US officials confirmed preparations for possible ground operations, signaling a further escalation beyond ongoing aerial strikes. Despite the heightened rhetoric, Trump maintained that negotiations remain possible, stating a deal could be reached “very quickly.”

Overnight, the US president said American forces struck “many long sought-after targets” inside Iran, marking a significant expansion of military operations. In parallel, Israel confirmed it carried out fresh attacks on Tehran, further intensifying regional hostilities.

Iranian officials responded with strong warnings. The country’s parliament speaker said Iranian forces were “waiting” for US ground troops, vowing they would “rain fire upon them” if deployed.

Kharg Island, located in the Persian Gulf, is responsible for handling the majority of Iran’s oil exports, making it one of the most strategically vital energy assets in the region. Any disruption to its operations could have immediate global consequences.

Markets have already reacted, with oil prices rising above $115 per barrel amid fears of supply disruption. Analysts also warned that the conflict could trigger wider economic shocks, including rising food prices, as fertiliser exports become increasingly constrained.

In the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to meet business leaders at Downing Street to assess the economic fallout and coordinate a response to the escalating crisis.

The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic and military developments unfolding rapidly, raising concerns over a broader regional conflict and its global economic impact.
